Box Score 2 HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team finished the Wid-Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata College with matchups against nationally-ranked Juniata College and Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon in the Memorial Gym.
The Eagles (7-18) fell to No. 1 Juniata, 3-1 (14-15, 12-25, 25-23, 19-25), in the first match and then lost, 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-16), to No. 24 Carnegie-Mellon.
The Eagles posted 36 kills, 32 assists and 64 digs as a team versus No. 1 Juniata.
Junior Abby Mills and freshman Jenna Hamra both had double-double performances against Juniata. Mills recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, and Hamra put up a double-double behind 12 assists and 12 digs.
Freshman Victoria Wilson also registered 15 assists and sophomore Macon Frey notched 21 digs.
Against Juniata (26-1), the Eagles struggled in the early going, combining for only 15 kills through the first two sets.
On the other hand, Juniata combined for 23 kills and only eight errors in the first two periods to go up 2-0.
The Eagles began to show life in the third set by landing 12 kills and forcing eight Juniata errors to prolong the match.
In the third set, Juniata started off with a 10-16 lead. The Eagles then sparked a run to tie the game 19-all following a kill from sophomore Sarah Temple.
Mills dialed up a service ace to put the Eagles ahead 20-19, and a few plays later junior Bailey Long hammered a kill for a two-point advantage, 24-22.
The Eagles won the third set behind a kill from Wilson.
The fourth set was evenly matched in the beginning until Juniata scored six unanswered points to go up 16-10. Juniata maintained its six-point cushion through the remainder of the period to earn the win.
Against Carnegie Mellon (24-6), Mills led the offense with 12 kills, Hamra posted her second straight double-double with 19 assists and 15 digs and Frey tabbed 22 digs.
In the first set, Carnegie Mellon came out the gate strong to take a 17-8 lead.
The Eagles clawed back into the match to cut the deficit to 21-18 following a kill from Wilson, but Carnegie Mellon held on to take the first set.
Carnegie Mellon won the next two sets with ease by committing only three errors and rattling off 29 kills while the Eagles managed only 19 kills and committed 15 errors during the last two periods.
Frey received All-Tournament team honors for her efforts. She played all 10 sets with two kills, eight assists, two service aces and 57 digs.
The Eagles will return home for Senior Day during an ODAC contest against Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
