BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis outlasted Randolph-Macon College, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon in a closely contested ODAC match on Mapp Courts.
Bridgewater held a 2-1 lead after some tight doubles competition.
At No. 1 doubles, the Eagles duo of Kyle Hartfield and Christian Lynn defeated Ryan Byrd and Ira Usry 8-4. At No. 2, Bridgewater's Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff overcame an early deficit to down Connor Hoerr and John Adam 8-6.
In a back-and-forth match at No. 3 doubles, the Yellow Jackets' Tom Lewis and Baxter Carter overcame Aaron Snook and Cameron Rhoney 8-6.
The Eagles were victorious in the top four singles flights to clinch the victory.
Larsen and Byrd hooked up a close match with Bridgewater's Larsen taking a tough 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
Hartfield had an easier time at No. 2 by defeating Hoerr 6-3, 6-1. Lynn was involved in a tough battle at No. 3 singles where the Eagles' senior held on to stop Adam 6-4, 7-6. Rishcoff rolled to victory at No. 4, defeating Usry 6-1, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets claimed singles points at No. 5 and No. 6. Alex Currow rallied after losing the opening set 4-6 to Bridgewater's Aaron Snook to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-0 to pick up the victory at No. 5. At No. 6 singles Macon's Tom Lewis won in straight sets over Rhoney 6-2, 6-2.
