Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Bridgewater's ODAC baseball contest at Shenandoah was halted in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday with the Hornets holding a 3-2 lead. The game will be completed Tuesday when Shenandoah travels to Bridgewater.
The Hornets were two outs away from winning when the contest was halted due to lightning. During the mandatory 30-minute delay, the rain began and after checking the radar the game was officially halted in accordance to ODAC rules. The contest will be finished Tuesday prior to the start of the regularly scheduled game at Bridgewater.
Shenandoah relief pitcher Ryan Mossman struck out Darren Yoder to start the ninth, but Kenner Berry doubled and Brendan Howell walked to put runners at first and second. At that point the game was stopped by lightning. When play resumes, the Eagles will have runners at first and second with one out and Justin Petock due to bat.
The Hornets scored one run in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit and the score remained 1-0 until the fifth when the Eagles scored twice.
Petock singled to lead off the top of the fifth, but was caught stealing for the first out of the inning. Brandon Poole singled to right and scored on a double by Cavin Clyde, tying the score at 1-1. Clyde moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Hensley, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Hornets answered with two runs in their half of the fifth to regain the upper hand, 3-2.
Bridgewater committed six errors Wednesday as only one of Shenandoah's three runs was earned.
