VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team was eliminated by Washington and Lee, 5-0, Saturday morning in the ODAC tournament semifinals hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Generals swept the doubles competition to take a 3-0 lead.
W&L's Michael Holt and Christopher Hu took the win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Kyle Hartfield and Christian Lynn. At No. 2 doubles Jordan Krasner and Will Bannister downed Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff by the same 8-2 margin. The Generals' Joe Siami and Ethan Markman completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 over Bridgewater's Aaron Snook and Cameron Rhoney.
The Generals closed out the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Bannister stopped Snook 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 while Siami blanked Rhoney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The remaining matches were not finished.
At No. 1 singles Holt won the first set from Larsen 6-2. At the No. 2 slot Bridgwater's Hartfield won the first set from Krasner 6-4 with Krasner leading the second set 3-1. Hu took the first set from Lynn at No. 3 by a score of 6-2 and Markman defeated Rishcoff 6-2 in the opening set.
W&L, ranked No. 32 in the nation and No. 8 in the region, is now 14-8 overall and advances to the ODAC title match.
Bridgewater finishes the year with a 9-9 record.
