BRIDGEWATER, Va. -Bridgewater rallied from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play to win five of the six singles matches as the Eagles defeated Roanoke College, 5-4, in ODAC men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon on Mapp Courts.
Roanoke controlled play at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, winning both matches by the score of 8-3. The Maroons completed the sweep when Jose Alvarado and Bill Goins edged Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Joe Dillenbeck got the Eagles on the board when he turned back Jacob Morris 6-3, 6-4 to win at No. 3 singles.
The Maroons picked up their fourth point when Joey Ross outlasted BC's Thomas Rishcoff in split sets. Rishcoff won the first set 6-2, but Ross bounced back to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-1.
Kyle Hartfield kept the Eagles hopes alive when he downed Matt Kessler 6-3, 6-3 to take the victory at No. 1 singles.
Horner moved the Eagles closer when he rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Goins. Roberts then tied the match when he edged Alvarado 7-5, 7-6 at the No. 5 singles slot.
That left the No. 4 flight as the last match on the court with Bridgewater's Emmett Johnson battling Holden Branham to decide the team winner. Johnson came out on top as he edged his Roanoke opponent 7-6, 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Eagles.
