ASHLAND, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team ran its winning streak to four straight with a 7-2 victory Thursday afternoon in ODAC action at Randolph-Macon.
Bridgewater won the first two doubles flights to take a 2-1 lead.
Kyle Hartfield and Joe Dillenbeck edged John Adam and Baxter Carter 8-6 to win at No. 1 doubles. Thomas Rishcoff and Emmett Johnson had an easier time at No. 2 with an 8-2 victory over Tom Lewis and Alex Currow.
The Yellow Jackets avoided a doubles sweep as Jacob Haines and Pablo Bordas fought off Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner 8-5 to win at No. 3.
The Eagles were victorious in the first five singles flights to clinch the victory.
Bridgewater's Johnson was the first off the court with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Carter at No. 4 singles. Dillenbeck then defeated Haines 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 for the Eagles' fourth point.
The Yellow Jackets stayed alive when Stuart McCroskey defeated Horner 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match.
Roberts won the clinching point as he held off Currow 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 5 slot.
The top two singles flights were decided in split sets.
At No. 2, Rishcoff took the first set from Lewis 6-2, but Lewis evened the match by winning the second set 6-4. Rishcoff then won the deciding set 6-4.
Bridgewater's Hartfield rallied after losing the first set at No. 1 to defeat Adam. Adam won the first set 6-3 before Hartfield evened the match by winning the second set 7-6. A tiebreaker was played to determine the match winner with Hartfield prevailing 10-6.
