Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team lost its Senior Day game 20-10 to Randolph-Macon, but will have another contest to play with the ODAC quarterfinals coming on Tuesday.
It was Senior Day for Lakin Engman, who had game-highs with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, Caroline Fletcher and Jenna Devilbiss.
Bridgewater concludes its season with a 9-8 record (4-5 in the ODAC) and will head to the conference playoffs for the first time since 2004. The Eagles are set to face Lynchburg on the road on Tuesday.
There was little on the line with Bridgewater locked into the #6 seed and Randolph-Macon set at #2, so the Eagles limited multiple injured players with an eye towards getting ready for Tuesday. Devilbiss did not play, and goalkeepers Rachel Gruber and Annie Bashara were both still out as well.
After going coast-to-coast to score a key goal vs. Shenandoah on Wednesday, defender Erica Blubaugh went the length of the field again and this time picked up an assist, finding Fletcher to tie the contest at 1-1.
Randolph-Macon's Alex Lightfoot picked up her 50th assist of the season (BC's Claire Palermo-Re is second in the ODAC in the category) as part of two straight helpers to put the visitors up 3-1.
Palermo-Re would record assists on the next three Bridgewater goals, finding freshmen Kristen Stark and Anna O'Hara for nearly identical shots up high to the far left post. She then fed Sarah Yashinskie as the Eagles kept it close, trailing just 6-4 with 12:39 left in the half.
Shannon Jamieson hit the post on a free position but the Yellow Jackets got the rebound and scored as part of a five-goal unanswered run to take control. Later in that stretch Kayla O'Sullivan checked a ball away but Jamieson picked it up unmarked to score for a 9-4 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with three goals in the first 99 seconds to continue to pull away. Palermo-Re completed a nice spin move past her defender to make it 18-7 with 17 minute left, but by that point the game was well in hand for the visitors.
Alicia Hsieh finished with eight goals and five draw controls for Randolph-Macon, while Lightfoot tallied eight assists.
Randolph-Macon (11-5, 8-1 ODAC) will have a first round bye and await the Bridgewater-Lynchburg winner in the conference semifinals.
