HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Bridgewater College grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play Tuesday afternoon and then swept the singles matches to defeat Hampden-Sydney College, 8-1, in ODAC men's tennis action.
Bridgewater won at No. 1 doubles where Kyle Hartfield and Joe Dillenbeck turned back Patrick Bryant and David Anderson 8-3. The Tigers evened the match with a win at No. 2 as Trent Singleton and Harrison Stone defeated BC's Thomas Rishcoff and Emmett Johnson 8-5. Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner posted an 8-3 win over Andrew Loving and Nathan Horvit at No. 3 to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
Bridgewater won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Hartfield defeated Singleton 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Rishcoff downed Stone 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.
Dillenbeck turned back Loving at No 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 while Johnson stopped Anderson 6-1, 6-2 to win at No. 4.
Roberts edged Horvit 7-5, 6-3 to win at No. 5 and Horner rolled past Bryant 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
With the victory, the Eagles evened their conference record at 2-2.
