BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team won its second straight ODAC match by defeating Shenandoah University, 8-1, Wednesday afternoon on Mapp Courts.
The Eagles took control by sweeping the three doubles matches.
No. 3 doubles was the first match to finish as Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner blanked Steven Baker and Bryan Harris 8-0. Kyle Hartfield and Joe Dillenbeck were next off the court as the Eagles' duo took an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over over Matt Hwang and Kelly Sykes. Thomas Rishcoff and Emmett Johnson completed the sweep with an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles over James Ewing and Brett Dubin.
Bridgewater won five of the six singles matches to close out the victory.
Horner moved the team score to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Harris to win at No. 6.
Dubin kept the Hornets alive when he defeated Johnson at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Rishcoff clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ewing at the No. 2 flight.
Hartfield turned back Baker 6-3, 6-4 to win at No. 1 singles and Roberts defeated Sykes 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.
In the closest singles match, Dillenbeck edged Hwang 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 to take the victory at the No. 3 slot.
