LEXINGTON, Va. - The Bridgewater men's tennis team fell to Washington and Lee 5-0 late Saturday afternoon in the ODAC tournament semifinal round on the Generals' Upper Courts.
The Eagles, seeded No. 3, battled the No. 2 Generals with some strong play in doubles, but were unable to secure a point.
Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner stayed close early at No. 3 doubles, trailing W&L's Michael Lukas and Joe Siami 3-2, but the Generals duo pulled away to claim an 8-3 victory.
At No. 1 doubles, W&L's Will Bannister and Jordan Krasmer fought off a strong bid by Kyle Hartfield and Joe Dillenbeck 8-5.
Bridgewater's Emmett Johnson and Thomas Rishcoff trailed 5-4 at No. 2 doubles before the Generals' Thomas johnson and Zack Ely reeled off three straight games to win 8-4 and complete the doubles sweep.
The Generals closed out the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Johnson defeated Rishcoff 6-2, 6-2 to win at No. 2 while Bannister stopped Dillenbeck 6-3, 6-3.
The remainder of the singles matches were not finished. W&L was up a set in each match, but several Eagles were playing well in the second set when play was stopped.
At No. 5, Roberts lost the first set to Siami 6-1, but was leading the second set 4-1.
W&L's Perry Clements defeated Horner 6-3 to win the first set at No. 6 and the second set was tied 1-1.
The Generals' No. 1 player, Krasner rolled past Hartfield in the first set 6-1 and the second set was tied 3-3.
W&L's Ely won the first set at No. 4 over Johnson 6-0 and was leading the second set 5-2.
With the loss, the Eagles finish the regular season with a 10-10 overall record. W&L advances to the title match to meet the top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. The Marlins downed Randolph-Macon 5-0 in the other semifinal match.
