Eagles Earn Split in Final Day at CUA Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON D.C. – Bridgewater College finished the CUA Tournament 3-1 following a 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-17) sweep over Wesley and a 3-0 (19-25, 26-28, 24-26) lost to Catholic on Saturday at the DuFour Center.

Bridgewater (6-2) finished second as a team in the tourney and senior Abby Mills cracked the All-Tournament team for the second weekend in a row.

In the first contest, BC utilized a well-balanced attack to take down Wesley in three-straight sets. Junior Carleigh Studtmann registered eight kills (.588) to go along with two blocks solo and a block assist.

Mills, freshman Allison Clark and sophomore Deja Booker also added seven kills each. Sophomore Jenna Hamra led the team in assists with 30 and dug up six attacks. Macon Frey finished the match with a team-high seven digs and Sydney McTigue collected six digs as well.

As a team, the Eagles posted double-digit kills in each set. The team's most explosive period was during the second set, spiking 16 kills on a .444 hitting percentage.

On the other hand, Wesley couldn't find an answer offensively as the team scored less than 20 points in each frame.

During the final match, the Eagles had a rematch with Catholic from last weekend. The Eagles fell 3-1 (22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 19-25) to the Cardinals during their last timeout at the EMU Invitational.

It was another competitive matchup between the programs despite the Cardinals' 3-0 victory. Two out of the three games were decided by only two points.

Mills posted a match-high 16 kills (.268) and added seven digs, while sophomore Victoria Wilson filled the box score with 16 assists, eight kills, nine digs and three service aces. Rookie Rachel Gaston also contributed seven kills.

Hamra paced the team with 22 assist and Frey led the way with 17 digs. McTigue chipped in nine digs, while Madison Haynes assisted on two blocks and tallied a couple of solo stops.

The Eagles begin conference play on the road against ODAC rival Lynchburg on Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
