Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - Randolph-Macon had a 15-1 advantage in draw controls as the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell 9-5 on the road in the team's ODAC opener.
Sophomores Anna O'Hara and Sarah Yashinskie scored twice each, with O'Hara adding two caused turnovers and six ground balls. Freshman Mackenzie Parcell led the defense with three caused turnovers, and Rachel Gruber had another strong performance in the cage with 12 saves.
Besides for the disparity in draw controls, the Eagles- who held a 31-24 advantage in ground balls- were otherwise very comptitive throughout the evening. O'Hara scored twice in a span of three and a half minutes to give the Eagles an early 2-1 lead.
Gruber would make six first half saves and BC trailed just 3-2 at the break. However, the Bridgewater attack would not score for a span of over 28 minutes.
Laney Dee tied it at 2-2 and scored her second just after halftime to make it 4-2. Dwyer Neal answered with 20:20 remaining, ending the Bridgewater scoring slump and making it a one-goal game.
The hosts pulled away with five straight goals however. Sanders Riley assisted Alex Lightfoot and Hannah Jones, with Lightfoot and Jones then bookending the run to make it 9-3 with 6:18 remaining.
Yashinskie would score right off the ensuing draw and add another in the final minutes, but it wasn't enough to avoid the Eagles' first defeat of the 2017 season.
Lightfoot finished with two goals and three assists for the hosts. Alicia Hsieh forced a game-high four turnovers.
Bridgewater (4-1, 0-1 ODAC) will play three more non-conference games next week before resuming conference play. The Eagles will travel to Marymount on Monday, face Meredith in a Wednesday neutral site game at Ferrum College, and host Greensboro on Sunday, April 2.
