FERRUM, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team dropped its second overtime game in three days, coming up just short against three-time defending USA South champions Meredith College.
Annie Sullivan (who had a game-high five goals) and Dwyer Neal scored to erase an 11-9 deficit late and send the game into OT.
After the Eagles had tied it up, Meredith stalled for the final five minutes and then shot wide in the final seconds. However, the hosts won the overtime draw and Maria Codispoti scored the winner on the first shot of the possession.
Meredith came into the game with a 9-1 record, including victories over ODAC playoff contenders Roanoke and Guilford, and has now won 10 straight with the lone loss coming in their season opener against Mary Washington.
With the Eagles up 7-5 at halftime, Meredith exploded for four goals in the opening 4:50 of the second half.
Four different players scored in the run, capped by a free position goal by Julie Capretti that made it 10-8.
Two straight Sullivan goals had given the Eagles a 4-3 lead with 9:36 remaining in the first half.
Sullivan restored the one-goal lead after Carlee Joseph tied it back up at 4-4, but the hosts answered again to knot things up at 5-all.
Bridgewater then surged into halftime with a 7-5 lead after Sullivan scored with 12 seconds remaining in the period. Sullivan had assisted Anna O'Hara to give the Eagles a 6-5 advantage.
Kristen Stark had a hat trick along with an assist and two caused turnovers for BC. Sarah Yashinskie totaled a goal, an assist, six draw controls and three ground balls.
Bridgewater falls to 4-3 overall and will play its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday, home vs. Greensboro.
