BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College picked up a key conference victory Saturday afternoon as the Eagles defeated Hampden-Sydney 6-3 on Mapp Courts.
With the victory, the Eagles maintain second place in the ODAC standings with a 4-1 conference record.
The Eagles got off the a quick start by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Kyle Hartfield and Thomas Rishcoff won at the No. 2 slot by defeating Levy Young and Harrison Stone, 8-2. Bridgewater's Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner teamed up to down Clark Cummings and Grayson Burns by the same 8-2 tally at No. 3 doubles.
The Tigers salvaged a doubles point when Matthew and Michael Moody outlasted Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers 8-6 to win at No. 1.
The Eagles closed out the match by dominating the bottom part of the ladder, winning the No. 3 through No. 6 singles flights - all in straight sets.
Rishcoff defeated Trent Singleton 6-2, 6-1 to win at No. 3 and Rodgers downed Cummings 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
Horner tacked on the winning point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Andrew Loving at No. 5 singles. Bridgewater's Emmett Johnson closed out the Eagles' scoring with a win at No. 6 over Young by scores of 6-4, 6-2.
The Tigers took the top two singles flights for the final 6-3 margin.
Matthew Moody defeated Hartfield 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Michael Moody outlasted Dillenbeck in split sets at No. 2. Dillenbeck won the first set 7-5, but Moody evened the match by taking the second set 6-4. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner and Moody edged Dillenbeck 10-8 to claim the point.
