Eagles Pick Up Key Win Over Yellow Jackets

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play Wednesday afternoon and the Eagles went on to defeat Randolph-Macon, 7-2, in a key ODAC match played on Mapp Courts.

With the victory, the Eagles strengthened their hold on second-place in the conference standings. The Eagles are all alone in second place with an 8-1 conference record.

Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner put the Eagles on the scoreboard as the Eagles duo blanked Pablo Bordas and Jack Aprahamian, 8-0, to win the No. 3 doubles match.

Kyle Hartfield and Thomas Rishcoff stopped Alex Curnow and Shane Berry 8-2 at No. 2 doubles before Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Baxter Carter and Grant Sarver at the No. 1 slot.

Hartfield was first off the court in singles play as he took a straight set 6-0, 6-2 victory over Carter at No. 1.

Horner clinched the team victory with a victory over Bordas at No. 5 singles. Horner won the first set 6-3 before Bordas retired.

The Eagles also picked up victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. At No. 3, Rishcoff defeated Curnow 6-2, 6-4 while Rodgers needed three sets to take the win at No. 4 over Stuart McCroskey. Rodgers won the first set 7-5, but lost the second set 6-2. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Rodgers winning 10-5.

Sarver picked up a point for the visitors with a three-set win at No. 2 over Dillenbeck 2-6, 6-2 (10-7 in the tiebreaker).

Berry won his match at No. 6 over Bridgewater's Emmett Johnson 6-2, 6-2, making the final score 7-2 in favor of the Eagles. 

Bridgewater closes out the regular season on Sunday when the Eagles host Virginia Wesleyan.
