Box Score

BRIDGEWATER - Bridgewater College tuned up for an important stretch of conference games with an 8-2 non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon over Mary Washington. The victory snapped a five-game Bridgewater losing streak.

Bridgewater scored all of its runs in the first four innings and five Eagles' pitcher combined to shut out Mary Washington over the first eight innings.

After lefty Samuel Imeson struck out the side in the top of the first, the Eagles took the lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Austin Batten walked to lead off the game and, after Jacob Talley was out on a fly ball to center, Batten stole second. A fly ball by Chris King moved Batten to third and Batten scored on a two-out single by Brett Jones, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the second with a two-out rally. With two outs and no one on base, Parker Mead walked and stole second. After Batten was hit by a pitch, Talley singled down the left-field line, scoring Mead for a 2-0 Eagles' lead. Batten and Talley both advanced on a wild pitch before King lined a two-run single to left-center, making the score 4-0.

Bridgewater added two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to lead 8-0.

With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Jake Bailey walked and moved around to third when Kevin Navedo's liner to first was misplayed for an error. Navedo took second on a wild pitch and, with two outs, Batten walked to load the bases. Talley followed with a two-run single to right, givng the Eagles a 6-0 advantage.

In the fourth inning, Luke Paczewski walked with one out and Jake Bailey followed with a run-scoring double to the gap in left-center, pushing Bridgewater's lead to 7-0. Bailey took third on a groundout by Navedo and scored when Mead beat out a slow roller to third for a base-hit, making the score 8-0.

Mary Washington avoided the shutout when David Slupek led off the ninth with a towering homer, deep to right field. Ramsis Ruiz followed with a double down the left-field line and then scored on David Lambertson's single up the middle for the final 8-2 margin.

Imeson allowed one hit in his two innings on the mound to start the game and was awarded the victory. Ian Mayes followed with two shutout innings and allowed just one hit. Jacob Grabeel allowed one hit in the fifth and Johnny LaVoie allowed no hits in the sixth. Kyle Jones extended the shutout streak with two stellar innings.
