Eagles Lose By Three to NCAA Qualifier Transylvania

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team lost a tight contest against 2018 NCAA tournament participant Transylvania on Thursday by a 12-9 scoreline.

Kristen Stark had three goals and an assist and Anna O'Hara recorded a hat trick for the Eagles. Grace Stang caused four turnovers, while Sarah Yashinskie and Dwyer Neal each forced three.

A low-scoring game was just 3-2 Transylvania at halftime, as the Pioneers' Mackenzie Dent (13 saves) stopped eight of 10 first half shots. At the other end, Olivia Carson made eight saves for the Eagles.

Bridgewater took a 2-0 lead after six minutes played with a pair of goals from O'Hara. Her second was partially saved by Dent but snuck just over the goalline.

O'Hara hit the post later in the first half, followed by an eight-meter from Neal that was saved, as the Eagles were unable to add to their scoring total for the rest of the period.

With BC trailing 5-3 early in the second half, Rogers had an eight meter chance and instead of shooting threw a perfect pass to Stark. Stark was fouled hard for another free position shot, but the attempt was saved by Dent. Transylvania countered the other way for a goal from Rachel Johnson, who would go on to score seven times in the second half.

Stark scored right off the draw to keep the deficit at two, and nearly scored again man-up but saw her shot rebound off the inside of the post.

Transylvania stretched their lead to 10-5 before O'Hara scored while being fouled to give BC the goal and the draw control. Yashinskie's shot was saved however, as Dent continued to deny Bridgwater comeback attempts.

Yashinkie made it 12-8 Pioneers with 5:10 remaining and then had another free position shot that was saved down low by Dent. BC would get one more late goal from Stark, but couldn't get any closer.

Along with Johnson's seven-goal outburst over less than 19 minutes, the Pioneers got five assists from Emma Oliver.

Bridgewater is 0-6 and will face another tough home game on Saturday, vs. Dickinson. Transylvania improves to 6-2.
