Eagles Move to 3-0 With Home Win Over Delhi

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 16-5 home win over SUNY-Delhi on Saturday.

Freshman Chris Martel led the way with five goals and two assists, while Eric Husselbaugh had four goals and an assist. Justin Calabrese had a hat trick and Lucas Johnson added two goals and one helper.

Jake Truman led the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Grayson Rech and Alesandro Gargano each finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Jake Pangle snuck one past Delhi goalie Travis Anderson (seven first half saves, 14 total) on the inside post to make it 2-0 BC after less than five minutes played.

Hunter Callan then caught the Broncos' defense on a restart, rushing in and drawing several defenders before finding a wide-open Husselbaugh across the crease for a 3-0 lead.

The Broncos got one back in the first quarter but couldn't make it a one-goal scoreline as Hunter Bagby denied Travis Biggs on consecutive possessions late in the quarter.

Johnson was involved in both a man-down and man-up goal in the second quarter. He assisted Martel shorthanded it make it 4-1 Eagles, and then finished off a pass from MacLeish on a 6-on-4 that made it 6-1.

Martel gave the Eagles a 7-1 lead with a goal just before halftime, flipping a backhand shot off an assist from Trent Cheyney.

Martel and Husselbaugh would each record three points in the opening five minutes of the third quarter.

The pair assisted each other for the opening two goals of the period. Husselbaugh's crease roll then gave him two goals in 49 seconds and a 10-1 BC lead, and Martel made it 11-1 with 10:44 still remaining in the third.

Bridgewater will host Wilkes on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the middle of a five-game homestand.
