Eagles Score 16 Times in 28 Minute Stretch at William Peace

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. – Despite a late run by the hosts, the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team won a 17-14 offensive battle at William Peace on Thursday.

Mason Gauntt won 14-of-15 faceoffs and picked up 13 ground balls (tying his own school record) in his return to the lineup, and senior Jake Truman totaled four caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Justin Calabrese totaled six goals and an assist, Eric Husselbaugh had three goals and a helper, and Jake Pangle scored twice for the Eagles.

Trailing 2-1 with just over two minutes left in the first, Justin Calabrese struck twice in a span of just 35 seconds to re-take the lead. Chris Martel made it 4-2 BC heading into the second quarter.

The highlight of the game for Bridgewater came early in that second period. After Husselbaugh and Peace's Parker Beebe traded man-up goals, BC's Joshua Huffman was called for a 60-second tripping penalty.

The Eagles would score not once, but twice on that kill. Hunter Bagby saved Brewer Warlick and Jared Barley broke the other way for the longpole strike. Gauntt won the ensuing faceoff and Calabrese scored to make it 7-3.

Lucas Johnson, Pangle, Taylor Phipps and Sean MacLeish scored four unanswered to close the half with BC up 13-6. A third quarter goal by Husselbaugh made it 17-9 and gave the Eagles 16 goals in a span of 28:12.

Bridgewater would then be held scoreless for nearly 19 minutes to close the game however. Nick Falso and Dalton Albright scored for WPU late in the third, and Albright's goal with 2:58 left in the contest pushed the Peace run to five goals and made it just a three-point game.

William Peace had two more shot attempts to cut the deficit to two, but the first was high and the final chance was saved by BC's Robbie Noyes.

Bridgewater improves to 6-2 and will host Alvernia on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the Eagles' One Love Game.
