Eagles Rack Up Goals, Ground Balls in 23-9 Win

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team turned in another strong offensive performance, beating Alvernia 23-9 on Jopson Field.

Eric Husselbaugh totaled four goals and four assists, while Justin Calabrese and Sean MacLeish each recorded four goals and one assist.

Mason Gauntt (eight), Jake Truman (seven) and Tyler Nieto (six) racked up the ground balls for BC, who finished with a 66-28 advantage in that category.

After scoring five unassisted goals and six overall in the last game, Calabrese opened the scoring with a drive in from the left side.

With the Eagles leading 2-1, Alvernia completed a tough pass across the crease to the back post, but Hunter Bagby made a nice diving save coming back across.

MacLeish hit the post, but Lucas Johnson scored to make it 3-1 on the possession after Jake Pangle chased down the ground ball.

Late in the first Truman picked up a ground ball, cleared and ripped a perfect bounce shot just under the crossbar. That made it 5-1 Bridgewater.

The Eagles poured it on in the second quarter, opening the lead up to 12-3. The Golden Wolves had a one-minute man advantage opportunity, but Bagby made a low save on Jarret Abernethy.

Husselbaugh got the Eagles into double-digits when he made it 10-3, and Daniel Graham made it a 10-goal lead, 13-3, in the third quarter.

MacLeish again made it a double-digit gap, 14-4, after a nice outside goal by Abernethy. In between, Trent Cheyney had ripped a shot off the crossbar.

Senior Jacob Clemmer scored his second and third goals of the season in the third quarter, as Bridgewater led 18-6 heading into the final 15 minutes.

The Eagles improve to 7-2 and will be home again on Wednesday with a tough ODAC matchup vs. Roanoke. Alvernia is 3-5 on the year.
