Men's Lax Clinches Second Consecutive Playoff Berth

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team clinched its second straight ODAC playoff berth with an 18-6 win over Randolph on Saturday.

Sean MacLeish had four goals and two assists while Eric Husselbaugh scored twice and dished out five helpers.

Senior Jacob Clemmer led the Eagles with eight ground balls, while classmate Jake Truman picked up seven while causing four turnovers.

Truman dispossessed a Randolph attacker and sent their stick flying 20 feet in the air for a caused turnover less than two minutes into the game, but the WildCats held up early on at their defensive end.

The visitors went offsides and Hunter Callan was saved as the Eagles played 6-on-7. On the ensuing 6-on-5, Chris Martel was saved by William Doyle (13 first half stops).

The Eagles finally got on the board late in the first quarter on two inside feeds to MacLeish from Husselbaugh and Callan.

Husselbaugh gave Bridgewater a 3-0 lead heading into the second period after a nice cross-field pass to Trent Cheyney.

Connor McLean made it 4-0 off a great Callan feed in the second quarter. On the next possession, MacLeish hit the post, and the WildCats were able to score twice in the period.

With 1:04 left in the first half Truman forced a turnover and went the length of the field to score for a 6-2 lead.

The Bridgewater offense came to life in the third quarter. MacLeish's behind-the-back goal kicked off a run of seven goals in under six minutes to pull away.

Husselbaugh, who has already set the program single season assists and points marks this year, scored BC's 14th and 15th of the day late in the third, tying and then surpassing Blake Mann's record of 50 goals in a season.

The Eagles improve to 12-4, 5-4 ODAC and will host Ferrum next Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
