MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team dominated the faceoff circle, beating Huntingdon 25-5 on Sunday in Alabama.
Eric Husselbaugh totaled 10 points on four goals and six assists, with Chris Martel (five) leading BC in goals for the second straight contest. Also recording hat tricks were Sam Homick, Lucas Johnson and Jake Pangle.
After a tough season opener on the faceoff, Bridgewater absolutely dominated the Hawks, winning 33-of-34. Samuel Sharps (10-of-10, nine ground balls) and Logan Edwards (2-of-2) were both perfect on the circle, while Mason Gauntt (21-of-22, 16 GBs) set school single game records for both ground balls and faceoffs won.
BC jumped out to a 10-0 lead in under 11 minutes. Two goals each from Martel and Husselbaugh and a Kyle Graham tally made it 5-0 in the opening five minutes.
Jake Pangle made it 6-0, and Gauntt went right down off the ensuing faceoff to score again 14 seconds later. Homick assisted Graham to make it 10-0 Eagles with 4:14 left in the first quarter.
Pangle scored in the opening minute of the second quarter for a 12-1 lead. Homick and Martel each finished off Husselbaugh feeds in the final 64 seconds of the first half to make it 16-3 at the break.
Bridgewater added nine more in the third quarter, with Hunter Becker beating the horn for a 25-4 lead heading into the fourth.
Bridgewater (1-1) will play at Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday.
