Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Swarthmore was able to take momentum back in the third quarter as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 15-10 on Wednesday at Jopson Field.
Connor McLean had a goal and four assists, while Eric Husselbaugh (three goals, two assists) also recorded five points. Mason Gauntt continued to dominate on the faceoff, winning 22-of-28 with 15 ground balls.
McLean had three points in a span of 78 seconds in the third quarter. He assisted a Kyle Graham rip, and then assisted Husselbaugh. Husselbaugh then returned the favor to McLean, and all of sudden the Eagles were within three at 9-6 and heading to the man-advantage right off the faceoff.
The Eagles turned it over on the power play however, and Zander Levitz came back onto the field following his one-minute slashing penalty and assisted on a goal with one second left on the shot clock.
McLean would add another assist in the quarter, but the Garnet stretched their advantage to 13-7 at the end of the third.
Husselbaugh had hit the crossbar early in a first quarter that ended 3-3, and soon after scored Bridgewater's first goal off a Sam Homick assist.
Kyle Graham drove right through his defender to give Bridgewater their only lead of the day, 2-1. With the shot clock running down late in the first, Husselbaugh looped a crossfield pass to Justin Calabrese to tie it up at 3-3.
Swarthmore surged ahead with a 5-0 second quarter. Quin Seivold ripped one off the crossbar but Alec Ferry scored on the same possession for a 5-3 Garnet lead.
Austin Change then converted his first hat trick on a 5-on-5 to make it 7-3, and Swarthmore took an 8-3 lead into halftime.
Bridgewater is 2-3 on the year, while Swarthmore improves to 4-2.
