LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg College split the singles matches Tuesday afternoon with Bridgewater and that was just enough for the host team to edge the Eagles 5-4 in ODAC men's tennis action.
The Eagles scored the first point of the day when Canon Secord and Matthew Gordon took the win at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-1 over Daniel Christian and Carter McCleary.
The Hornets claimed wins in the two remaining double matches to lead 2-1. Lynchburg's Colton Mullins and Vincent Oliver downed Nick Kiser and Gabe Elder 8-4 to win at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Cooper Brewen and Matthew Manos stopped Leyton Pullin and Bryce Cline 8-3.
The Eagles claimed the first two singles points to lead 3-2 in the match. Secord blanked Mullins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Elder rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over McCleary at No. 4 singles.
The Hornets won the next three matches to clinch the victory. Manos downed Cline 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 position and Christian defeated Gordon 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Oliver sored the clinching point with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Pullin at No. 5.
Bridgewater picked up its final point at No. 3 where Kiser defeated Brewen in split sets 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8).
