BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater's men's tennis team won its second straight ODAC match, defeating Hampden-Sydney 7-2 Tuesday afternoon on Mapp Courts.
The Eagles won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead.
Bridgewater's Matthew Gordon and Gabe Elder put the Eagles on the scoreboard with an 8-0 victory over Andrew Quick and Bryson Alley at No. 2 doubles. Canon Secord and Nick Kiser made it 2-0 with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles over Andrew Donelson and Tyler Brice.
The Tigers salvaged the point at No. 3 doubles where Patrick Conide and David Hudson held off Leyton Pullin and Bryce Cline, 8-5.
The Eagles won five of six singles matches to finish with the 7-2 victory.
Secord was first off the courts in singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 slot over Brice. Pullin added the point at No. 5 singles, defeating Hudson 6-3, 6-0. Elder scored the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Quick at No. 4 singles.
Kiser took the win at No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-3 margin over Alley and Gordon outlasted Donelson at the No. 2 position in split sets. Donelson took the first set 6-1, then Gordon evened the score by winning the second set 6-4. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner, with Gordon prevailing 10-7.
