Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-8 home matchup with #5 Lynchburg on Saturday.
Eric Husselbaugh had a hat trick for the Eagles with Connor McLean adding two goals and one assist and Kyle Graham scoring twice.
Alesandro Gargano totaled four caused turnovers and four ground balls to lead the defense, with Grayson Rech adding three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
The BC defense made some big plays early in the game. Robbie Noyes saved a wide-open Brett Rogers on the game's first possession, and Joey Pellegrino picked off a pass from behind the cage to help kill off a 6-on-4 Lynchburg power play. Noyes then made a point-blank stop at the back post to deny Ryan Kenney.
The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 later in the first quarter with a pair of tallies. Hunter Becker drew a flag on an acrobatic crease dive attempt, then assisted Justin Calabrese on the man-advantage to even things up.
Husselbaugh scored on a crease dive early in the second quarter to keep Bridgewater close at 5-3, before the Hornets closed the first half on a 6-1 run.
Graham was the main BC threat in the fourth quarter. After scoring in the opening minute of the period, he nearly scored again a minute later off a nice Becker feed but was saved by Lynchburg goalie Patrick Moore. He would soon record the next Bridgewater goal, and Becker's second assist of the game set up McLean to make it 17-8 Hornets.
Bridgewater falls to 2-4, 2-4 ODAC and will host Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. Lynchburg is 10-2, 5-1 on the year.
