Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah pulled away from a slim 7-6 lead with 10 runs in its final three at-bats to defeat Bridgewater College 17-8 Tuesday afternoon in ODAC baseball action.
Shenandoah's victory ended Bridgewater's four-game conference winning streak. The Eagles are now 10-9 overall and 9-8 in the ODAC.
The Hornets led 4-0 after two innings, but Bridgewater closed the gap with three runs in the top of the third inning. Isaiah Blanks led off the third with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Brett Tharp singled to put runners on the corners with one out. With two outs,, Tharp took second on a wild pitch and Kevin Navedo followed with a two-run single to center to put the Eagles on the board. After Jonathan Sexton was hit by a pitch, Brandan Hartman singled, scoring Navedo to pull the Eagles within one run, 4-3.
The Eagles pulled even in the top of the fifth inning on Hunter Clever's run-scoring single, tying the score at 4-4. Shenandoah regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Bridgewter answered with two runs in the sixth to pull back to within one run.
The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the sixth. Blanks and Jarret Biesecker opened the frame with back-to-back singles and both moved up a base on Tharp's sacrifice bunt. After Jeffrey Snider walked to load the sacks, Navedo plated a run with an infield single, trimming the SU lead to 7-5. Sexton then chased home a run with a sac fly, making it a one-run game, 7-6.
The Hornets responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 11-6 and then added three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to finish off the 17-8 victory.
The Eagles finished the game with 16 hits, led by Blanks with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate. Biesecker was 3-for-5. Navedo continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Navedo has 15 RBIs in his last five games.
Bridgewater returns to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Hampden-Sydney in a key ODAC doubleheader.
