Attack Sets Records in Win vs. Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – BC set several school offensive records as the Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team beat Virginia Wesleyan 22-12 on Jopson Field.

Eric Husselbaugh totaled seven goals and four assists, becoming the program's all-time leader scorer with 198 points- breaking the previous mark of 189 held by Blake Mann '18.

Both Husselbaugh and Connor McLean (four goals, seven assists) equaled the program single game record of 11 points, also held by Mann. McLean's seven assists set a new Bridgewater mark.

BC went 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities in the first half. Husselbaugh scored on a first quarter power play to tie Mann's record, and McLean added another man-up goal 51 seconds later off a nice feed from Hunter Becker.

Virginia Wesleyan went on a four-goal unanswered run to tie the game at 4-4, but Bridgewater took the lead into the second period off another nice Becker pass to set up Colby Smith.

Husselbaugh set the scoring mark on a tough pass through a crowd to Justin Calabrese, and Jake Pangle added another man-up goal to make it 7-4.

Becker set up Husselbaugh for a 9-4 scoreline. McLean forced a turnover on the clear and assisted Smith on the counterattack, and Kyle Graham struck with just three seconds on the clock as Bridgewater opened up a 15-6 lead at halftime.

Husselbaugh made it 18-6 in the third quarter with a one-handed finish off a crease roll.

The highlight reel goals continued in the fourth quarter, with Husselbaugh one-touching in a McLean pass to make it 20-7.

Smith scored four goals in his first collegiate start and Becker finished with four assists. Calabrese recorded a hat trick and an assist.

Mason Gauntt won 18-of-25 faceoffs and picked up 12 ground balls. Robbie Noyes stopped nine shots in the cage.

Bridgewater improves to 3-4, 3-4 ODAC and will host Ferrum on Saturday night- where the Eagles will recognize 16 players on Senior Day.
