BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team scored 20 times in the first half in a 27-1 win at Randolph on Wednesday.
Chris Martel scored four times, with Eric Husselbaugh adding two goals and four assists. Ryan Ashpole recorded a goal and three assists, Phelan Burns turned in two goals and one helper, and Gysbertus Metten and Kevin Tiffey each scored twice.
Bridgewater won 27-of-29 faceoffs, with Mason Gauntt (11-for-11), Dylan Montgomery (8-for-8) and Gabriel Alexander (8-for-10) all performing well. All three BC goalies who saw action (Robbie Noyes, Noah Ross and Tyler Carney) each recorded at least one save.
The win was career victory #100 for head coach Mic Grant, who has 59 wins with the Eagles after recording 41 victories from 2008-11 with Marywood University.
After Cole Mayer and Trent Cheyney struck 51 seconds apart to open the scoring, Bridgewater added three more in a span of under one minute from Connor McLean, Kyle Graham and Gauntt.
Husselbaugh's man-up goal made it 7-0, and Martel struck shorthanded for a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Eagles added 10 more in the second quarter, beginning with a power play goal from Graham.
Martel scored three times in under three minutes to make it 15-0, and Trevor McClelland, Logan Edwards, Jim Davis, Brandon Javier and Burns all scored before halftime as well.
Grant Nyland and Burns added man-up goals in the second half, with Metten and Tiffey each recording their first two career goals in the fourth period.
Bridgewater's regular season ends with a record of 5-4, 5-4 ODAC. The Eagles will need to wait for this weekend's conference games before final pairings are announcing, but BC is expected to be the fifth seed in the ODAC playoffs.
