WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 decision Thursday afternoon at Shenandoah in ODAC action.
The Eagles got off to a strong start, taking a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play.
Canon Secord and Nick Kiser put the first point on the scoreboard with a tight 8-6 win over Shenandoah's Keith Orr and Vitali Rivera at the No. 1 position.
After Shenandoah evened the score with a win at No. 2, Bridgewater's Leyton Pullin and Bryce Cline knocked off Brenton Baugh and Will Sides 8-4 to claim the point at No. 3 doubles.
The Hornets came back in singles action to win four of the six flights to edge the Eagles 5-4.
Shenandoah moved ahead with wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Aiden Steinly took the win at No. 5 over Pullin 6-4, 6-0 while Darian Diaz stopped Kiser 6-1, 6-1 at the No 3 slot.
The Eagles regained the lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 4. Secord stayed unbeaten in singles action this season with a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Orr at No. 1 singles. At No. 4, Bridgewater's Gabe Elder rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Baugh.
The Hornets won the final two matches to pull out the win. In a marathon matchup, Rivera slipped past BC's Matthew Gordon in split sets, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 to take the point at No. 2 At No. 6, Shenandoah's Sides fought off Cline 7-6, 7-5.
