Comeback Bid Falls Short for Women's Basketball

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - After being down 30-19 at the half, the Bridgewater College women's basketball team was only down by two entering the fourth quarter but not could complete the upset over visiting Randolph-Macon on Saturday in Nininger Hall.

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater shot only 7.1% from the field to start the game and entered the second quarter down with ground to make up at 14-3
  • The Eagles gained some ground in the second quarter, matching the Yellow Jackets with 16 points.  Jaden Alsberry posted 11 in the quarter alone as Bridgewater entered the locker room down 30-19
  • Bridgewater stormed back in the third quarter, going on an 8-0 run to come back within three points at 36-33 in a stretch that featured threes from Julia Williams and Rosemary Pierson. After R-MC converted two free throws to put the game at 38-33, a driving Reagan Maynard closed to gap on a layup to 38-35. The Yellow-Jackets then pulled ahead by five after two more makes from the charity stripe. With 52 seconds remaining in the half, Pierson was fouled behind the arc and sank all three free throws to bring the Eagles within two points at 40-38 entering the fourth quarter
  • Randolph-Macon bookended their offensive rhythm from the first quarter with a similar performance in the fourth, holding Bridgewater to 20% from the field while also grabbing ten rebounds compared to the Eagles eight. Forced to foul a proficient team from the line, Bridgewater would ultimately fall 58-47

Match Notes

  • Alsberry produced her second double-double in as many games and seventh of the season with a game high 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds. The sophomore went 7-for-11 from the field, playing a large portion of the contest in foul trouble
  • Pierson added 11 points and four rebounds followed by Erika Nettles with six points and four rebounds
  • The Yellow-Jackets picked up 11 team rebounds and 52 overall compared to the Eagles 40 overall

  • Bridgewater will rework their game plan as they travel to Randolph-Macon on Monday, February 14 to play the Yellow-Jackets for the second time in as many days. Action is set for 7:00 p.m. in Ashland.
