Baseball Finishes West Coast Trip With Win Over Whittier

WHITTIER, Ca. – The Bridgewater College baseball team won the final game of their spring break trip 12-7 vs. Whitter on Wednesday evening. The team finished the trip winning three of five games.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 12, Whittier – 7
  • Records: Bridgewater (9-4); Whittier (0-11)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater took the lead in the top of the third frame on a Jeffrey Snider double. Tanner Montgomery scored the first of his three runs on the day.
  • In the next inning, Brett Tharp scored on a throwing error that allowed him to advance from second all the way home.
  • The Eagles added three more in the fifth on errors to make the score 5-0.
  • Jacob Grabeel doubled down the left field line in the sixth, driving in Jarret Biesecker and Montgomery.
  • After Kevin Navedo walked, Brandan Hartman drove in Grabeel and Navedo on a single to left center making the score 9-0 Bridgewater.
  • Dane Goodman hit a grand slam for Whittier in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the Poets back into the game.
  • Snider followed that up in top of the eighth frame with a two-run shot stretching Bridgewater's lead back to seven.
  • Two solo homeruns from the Poets followed in the bottom half of the inning, making the game 11-6.
  • In the ninth Snider drove in his fourth RBI of the day giving the Eagles their final run to make it 12-6.
  • Tharp pitched the ninth and allowed a run, but the Eagles held on for the 12-7 win.

 Match Notes

  • James Swart went five solid innings giving up only four hits and no runs. He struck out three batters.
  • Snider led the team with four RBI's and went 3-6 at the plate. Grabeel had two RBIs as did Hartman.

Up Next

  • The Eagles will return home on Tuesday, March 8 to take on Mary Baldwin at home for the teams' first official home game of the 2022 campaign. Action is set for 3:00 p.m.
