Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team faultered on the road against Mary Washington, falling 13-9, on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 9, Mary Washington 13

How It Happened

  • UMW got on the board first before a quick response from Sam Homick who tied the game at 1-1 with 11:34 left in the first quarter.
  • The home side scored the next three goals to take a 4-1 lead after one period.
  • Kristophe Newman scored his third goal of the game for Mary Washington in the first minute of the second quarter to push UMW ahead 5-1, but BC responded with four of the next five goals, including a pair from Hayden Gourley, to cut the lead down to 6-5 at the half.
  • The two sides alternated scores for the entirety of the third quarter as UMW held on to a 9-7 advantage after three quarters.
  • The home side won the fourth quarter with four goals compared to just two for Bridgewater as Mary Washington held on for a 13-9 victory.

Match Notes

  • Gourley scored a pair of goals and an assist to finish with three points on the day.
  • Connor McLean tallied two goals and an assist of his wn as he reaches the 100 point plateau for his career. He becomes the seventh player in program history to reach the 100-point mark after recording his 50th career goal just a few weeks ago.
  • McLean also picked up four ground balls to tie for the team lead in the game.
  • Hunter Becker scored once and tallied three helpers to lead the team with four points. Becker leads the team with 14 assists.
  •  Colby Smith, Lucas Johnson, and Chris Martel also scored for the Eagles, while Martel also picked up four ground balls.
  • Robbie Noyes made nine saves between the pipes.
  • Bridgewater led the game with 39 shots, while Mary Washington held a 36-28 edge in ground balls.
