Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --A trio of Bridgewater College men's lacrosse players etched their names in the program record books as three single-season marks were reset in a 25-4 victory against Randolph on Wednesday night.

The first record to be broken on the night came from the stick of Chris Martel as he surpassed Eric Husselbaugh's single-season goal record with his second goal of the night with eight seconds left in the first quarter. With four total goals on the night, Martel continues to pace the ODAC in goals and ranks inside the top five in the country with 57 goals. With 118 career goals, Martel sits third in team history and one of just four players to reach the 100-goal plateau. With a five-point performance, Martel is tied with Sean MacLeish for second-most points in a season at 63. In addition to his four goals, Martel notched one assist to go along with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Shortly after the start of the second quarter, Connor McLean notched his third assist of the night to give him 34 helpers on the year, which surpassed the previous single-season mark of 33 assists. McLean has 72 career assists and ranks second in team history with the mark, and sits at 62 points for the season, which is fourth-most in the record books. McLean finished the day with a goal, three assists and a ground ball.

Gabriel Alexander etched his name in the Eagles' program history after capturing his 11th ground ball of the night with five minutes to go in the first half. With that pick up, he surpassed Mason Gauntt's 2019 single-season record of 114 ground balls. The sophomore leads the ODAC with 116 ground balls on the year and also ranks among leads with a .629 faceoff percentage. Alexander finished the night with 12 ground balls and went 14-of-15 at the faceoff X.  His faceoff percentage also ranks in the top five in team history, as well, and his 182 career faceoff wins puts him inside the Eagles' top five in the category.

The first quarter of the contest with the WildCats was all Bridgewater as the team raced out to a 10-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. The Eagles reached a 15-0 lead before Randolph got on the board with 6:19 left on the clock. BC tacked on three more scores and held an 18-1 lead at the break. Bridgewater outscored the visitors 7-3 in the second half to walk away with a 25-4 win.

Sixteen Eagles recorded a goal with an additional three players tallying assists. Martel led the way with five points, while McLean and Trevor McClelland (3 G, 1 A) each had four. Hayden Gourley scored two goals and added an assist to go with four ground balls and a caused turnover, while Nick Richmond recorded his first two collegiate goals. Owen Cogan also scored his first collegiate goal. Samuel Sharps tallied six ground balls and went 9-of-11 from X, while Ryan Ashpole won two facesoffs as well.
