Biesecker Earns 100th Career Hit Against Yellow Jackets

ASHLAND, Va. – Bridgewater College baseball senior Jarret Biesecker earned his 100th career hit as the team dropped a doubleheader to Randolph-Macon this afternoon with a score of 7-2 and 14-10. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 2, Randolph-Macon – 7
  • Records: Bridgewater (17-8, 4-3 ODAC); Randolph-Macon (15-5, 5-2 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Through four innings, the Yellow Jackets posted six runs and were shutting out the Eagles.
  • In the top of the sixth, Hunter Clever drove in Kevin Navedo on one of his three hits on the day, putting BC on the board.
  • Randolph-Macon added one more in the seventh to make it a 7-1 lead.
  • In the Eagles last half frame, Brett Tharp drove in Brandan Hartman on a double to left field, but the Eagles fell in game one 7-2.

 The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 10, Randolph-Macon – 14
  • Records: Bridgewater (17-9, 4-4 ODAC); Randolph-Macon (16-5, 6-2 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater started the game hot scoring three times in the first inning. Jacob Grabeel drove in Jarret Biesecker to score one run. Later in the inning, Jeffrey Snider launched a homerun to right center field to make it 3-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets immediately tied the game in the bottom half the inning at three apiece.
  • Brett Tharp put the Eagles back on top with a solo homerun in the second.
  • Randolph-Macon scored once in the bottom half the inning to again tie the game, this time 4-4.
  • In the top of the fourth, Grabeel scored on a wild pitch to take the lead, but this would be the final lead BC held in the contest.
  • R-MC would score two more in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth making its lead 10-5.
  • BC inched back into the game making it a 10-8 game scoring three times in the sixth inning. Jonathan Sexton scored off a fielder's choice by Snider, followed up by a two-run homer from Kevin Navedo.
  • Four more runs from the Yellow Jackets immediately followed in the bottom half of the seventh inning making the score 14-8.
  • After a scoreless eighth inning the Eagles did not go quietly in the ninth. Timothy Hopson scored on a fielder's choice and Snider reached on a pass ball off a strike out that scored Tharp. Bridgewater brought the tying run to the plate in the inning but fell short. 

Match Notes

  • Biesecker earned his 100th career hit with a lead off single in the first at bat of the game. The senior also scored a run.
  • Waring Garber pitched two innings, Nick Griffin 1.2, Hunter Clever 0.2, Bowe Rogers 1.2 and Tharp came in for two.
  • Grabeel, Snider, Clever, Tharp and Sexton each had two hits.
  • Snider led the squad with three RBIs.

Up Next

  • The Eagles will be back Tuesday, April 5 when they travel to Lexington for a match up with Washington and Lee. Action is set for 6 p.m.
