Men's Lax Downed by No. 20 Washington and Lee

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-11 decision to No. 20 Washington and Lee at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 11, No. 20 Washington and Lee 18
  • Records: Bridgewater 10-6, 5-4 ODAC; Washington and Lee 9-5, 7-0 ODAC

How It Happened

  • The first goal of the game came from the stick of Sam Homick off an assist by Connor McLean to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead early.
  • The lead did not last long as the Generals scored the game's next seven goals. Homick added his second of the game just before the end of the quarter, 7-2.
  • W&L got another two to start the second quater before Colby Smith broke up the goal run. The Generals jumped ahead 11-3 as Hunter becker cut the lead back down to seven goals at 11-4 with 6:40 in the half.
  • The Generals got back-to-back scores as did the Eagles with McLean and Jackson Wicker tallying goals before the end of the half, 13-6.
  • The Generals outscored BC 4-1 in the third quarter, while Bridgewater controlled the final period with goals from Chris martel, Smith, McLean and Homick. W&L held on for an 18-11 win.

Match Notes

  • Homick led the Eagles with three goals, while McLean and Smith each netted a pair. 
  • Trevor McClelland, Martel and Wicker also got on the scoresheet. 
  • Hayden Gourley and Ethan Moses both added assists with Moses recording the first point of his collegiate career. 
  • Gabriel Alexander, who was named to the USILA/Dynamic Division III Team of the Week on Tuesday, won 15-24 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls to lead the game in the category. Samuel Sharps won 4-of-9 faceoffs and snatched up a ground ball, as well.
  • Ryan Addison continued his strong freshman campaign with three ground balls and a caused turnover, while his defensive partner Grayson Rech recorded a pair of caused turnovers and also picked up three ground balls. 
  • Wicker and Martel both grabbed four ground balls, while McClelland and Trent Cheyney each registered three ground balls. 
  • Robbie Noyes made 13 saves in all 60 minutes and picked up a pair of ground balls of his own. 
  • The Generals capitalized on two of three man-up situations and outshot the home side 54-36 and picked up 47 ground balls compared to the Eagles' 39.
