Men's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 11 Lynchburg by a 20-8 count in its final contest of the 2022 regular season.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 8, No. 11 Lynchburg 20
  • Records: Bridgewater 10-7, 5-5 ODAC; Lynchburg 12-4, 8-1 ODAC

How It Happened

  • The first quarter was all Hornets as Lynchburg jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and held the Eagles to just three shots with 10 turnovers in the opening 15 minutes.
  • The scoring run continued for the Hornets as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead before Chris Martel broke up the run with his 63rd goal of the season off an assist from Hunter Becker. The Eagles trailed 15-1 at the break.
  • Bridgewater got on the board again with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter as Samuel Sharps picked up a faceoff victory and went all the way to score for the second goal of his season.
  • Minutes later, Connor McLean grabbed a pass from the length of the field by Tyler Carney and netted his first goal of the night. Trevor McClelland extended the scoring run with an assist to Sam Homick and then another goal from McLean off a helper from Martel cut the lead down to 18-5. McClelland added to the scoring run to drop the deficit to 18-6.
  • Bridgewater got two more back in the fourth, including one from Grant Nyland, but fell to the nationally-ranked Hornets, 20-8

Match Notes

  • McClelland ended the night with a hat trick.
  • McLean added two goals and an assist, while Martel scored once and registered two assists for three-point nights.
  • Nyland, Sharps, Becker, Homick and Carney all added points on the scoresheet, as well.
  • Gabriel Alexander picked up six ground balls to lead the team, while Jackson Wicker and Josh Goodwin picked up four each.
  • Eric Leasner added a caused turnover, while Becker, Sharps, Martel and Goodwin also forced turnovers.
  • Robbie Noyes made 12 saves in 30 minutes, while Carney stopped four of his own.

Up Next

  • The Eagles wrap up the regular season with a 10-7 overall mark. They will await official word on postseason play, but hold on to the sixth slot in the ODAC standings.
