Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - Sophomore Gabe Elder clinched the match for Bridgewater College men's tennis over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday in come from behind fashion.
The Eagles opened up play by taking two of the doubles points. At the top spot senior Canon Secord and freshman Matthew Leonard teamed up for a 8-0 win. Sophomore Bryce Cline stepped in the line up at No. 3 doubles and teamed up with Elder for an 8-5 win.
With BC up 2-1 action shifted to singles where Secord cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot.
Junior Noah Hughes joined the lineup in the No. 6 slot and picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win to even the match score at 4-4.
At the No. 2 spot Elder dropped the opening set 4-6 and fell behind 1-4 in the second set before he rallied to take the set 7-5. In the decider, the Charlotte native fell behind 2-4 but rallied off four straight games to take the decider 6-4 and clinch the match for the Eagles 5-4.
The Eagles avenge another loss from a year ago to move to 7-2 on the year. Due to an unbalanced schedule, the match was not counted as a conference match. Bridgewater will be back in action on April 14 to host Shenandoah on senior day. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
