Baseball's Season Comes to End in ODAC Tournament

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The No. 3 seeded Bridgewater College baseball team fell to the top-seeded Lynchburg, 4-1, and was eliminated from the ODAC Tournament at Truist Point Ballpark on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Final Score: No. 3 Bridgewater 1, No. 1 Lynchburg 4
  • Records: No. 3 Bridgewater 26-17), No. 1 Lynchburg 35-9

How It Happened

  • Jeffrey Snider stroked a two-out double in the first inning before Kevin Navedo drew a walk to put two runners in the opening frame but were stranded. The Hornets went down in order in the home half of the frame. Lynchburg eventually added a pair of runs in the second frame to go up 2-0.
  • The Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the third inning as Jarret Biesecker doubled followed by Brett Tharp hit by a pitch and Kevin Navedo drawing a walk. BC was not able to scratch across a run and left the bases full.
  • Lynchburg tallied another pair of runs in the fourth frame to extend its lead to 4-0 before adding another in the fifth, 5-0.
  • The Eagles got on the board in the seventh inning as Jacob Grabeel got a one-out single up the middle. He came around to score on a single by Biesecker who was then thrown out between first and second following a run down, 5-1.

Match Notes

  • Biesecker led the way with three hits, while Snider added a pair of hits.
  • Grabeel was 1-for-3 at the plate and came around to score the lone Bridgewater run and Hunter Clever also added a hit.
  • Robbie Stoss (1-2) started on the mound for BC and went 2.2 innings allowing three runs on the hits. James Swart entered in relief going 4.1 innings of work, scattering just a pair of hits and striking out eight, which is a career high. Tucker Hrasky pitched the final frame and did not allow a hit.
  • The winning pitcher for the Hornets was Zack Potts (8-4) who tossed 7.0 innings and gave up just one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts compared to two walks. Grayson Thurman picked up a save, his 13th of the season.
