FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team opened the ITA Southeast Regional on Saturday.
The Eagles opened the day with three singles matches.
Chase Pullin competed in the Championship Draw against Michael Melnikov from Swarthmore. The two traded service breaks to open the match but the No. 9 seed took over from there s Pullin fell 2-6, 0-6.
Gabe Elder opened up his weekend with a win in the B4 Draw. Elder fought through the windy conditions to prevail 8-5. Also in the B4 Draw,
Matthew Leonard opened play in a clash of styles against Darby Rogers of Ursinus. The Mechanicsville, Va. native fell behind 0-3 early and fought back the match back on serve before ultimately falling 4-8.
In doubles action
Mark Gordon and Elder teamed up in the B2 Draw much like last year but drew a tough duo rom Salisbury in the opening round. The match opened with trades of service breaks until the Seagulls held to go ahead 3-1 and went on to prevail 8-3.
Noah Hughes and
Bryce Cline also took part in the B2 Draw and came up short against a duo from ODAC foe Lynchburg 0-8.
Then the rain came delaying the rest of the B-Draw matches in order for the main draw matches to be played. Pullin and Leonard rolled out to court some 12 hours since they each last completed their singles matches in the morning. The duo fell 1-8 to a team from Gettysburg to close out the night.
