WINCHESTER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's track & field team kicked off its season at the Kaye and JJ Smith Invitational, hosted by Shenandoah University, placing second in the meet recording 88 points.
Bridgewater claimed the two top spots in the long jump with
J'Quaycia Brown claiming the top spot recording a 5.01 meters (16' 5.25'') jump, while teammate
Jade Buckles took second place registering a 4.94 meter (16' 2.25'') leap.
Brown was also successful in the triple jump elevating to a jump registering 10.08 meters (33' 1'') good enough for third place.
Freshman
Abby Mikolay placed second in the shot put with a heave measuring 11.57 meters (37' 11.5'') placing her fifth in program history in the event. Mikolay also took third place in the weight throw registering a 17.39 meter (45' 7'') heave earning her the third spot in the team's history.
Transitioning to track events,
Mackenzie Young finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:22.10, which ties her top-10 program time from a year prior.
Olivia Bates earned points for BC with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles being clocked at the 9.96 second mark.
Buckles earned second place in the 60-meter dash crossing the line at 8.15 seconds.
The Eagles head to Washington, D.C. this Saturday, Jan. 20, starting at 10 a.m. for the Cardinal Track & Field Classic hosted by Catholic.
