FOREST, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's track and field team swept this week's ODAC athlete of the week honors, as junior thrower Abby Mikolay earned women's field athlete of the week honors, and senior sprinter Jade Buckles earned the honor on the track side.
Mikolay competed in a variety of throwing events over course of the two-day meet. On Friday, Mikolay competed in the women's discus throw and finished first with a top throw of 38.57 meters. The mark is the second-best in the ODAC. On Saturday, Mikolay competed in shot put and hammer throw. Mikolay placed second in the women's shot put with a top throw of 12.60 meters. The first-place finisher in the event threw the third-best mark in the nation. The Waynesboro, Va product finished her scheduled events with a 41.42-meter throw in the hammer.
Buckles opened her meet as the anchor for the women's 4x100-meter relay. The relay placed first, breaking the tape after 49.26 seconds. The time is the second-best in the conference. Buckles then easily qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash and won the event with a time of 12.15. The mark sits at the top of the ODAC and currently ranks 18th nationally. Buckles finished her afternoon with a 25.42-second sprint in the women's 200-meter dash. The senior sprinter's best mark in the event (24.69) stands as the 11th-best time in the nation.
Bridgewater is scheduled to compete at the Colonia Relays beginning on Thursday, Apr. 2. The meet will be hosted by William & Mary, and will be held in Williamsburg, Va.
