Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team defeated Dubuque 7-2 on Wednesday.
The Eagles roared in front by taking a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Noah Hughes and
Mark Gordon Cruised to an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 slot and the duo of
Matthew Leonard and
Corey Beshoar surged late for an 8-4 win at the top spot.
In singles action,
Bryce Cline got the Eagles on the board as he stepped in front early and rode the momentum to a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Gordon battled at the No. 3 spot on his way to a 7-5, 7-6(1) victory as he fended off late surges from UD. Beshoar stepped ahead 3-0 in the opening set and had five set points, before falling 6-7(6), 6-0, 7-10.
Gabe Elder cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot, while Hughes rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 spot. Leonard was locked in a battle at the No. 2 slot. The junior dropped the opening set 4-6, before he battled back to force a third set with a 6-4 win in set two. Leonard got an early mini break and jumped in front to a 9-2 lead. The Mechanicsville, Va. native dug deep and finally converted on his fourth match point to seal the deal 10-5.
BC is back in action on Friday as they take on Gordon College at 10 a.m.
