LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's track & field team excelled in its first day of outdoor competition at the Washington and Lee Track & Field Carnival.
Starting off on the track, Emily Smeds conquered the new school record in the 10,000-meter run finishing with a time of 37:51.56.
Mackenzie Young finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run crossing the line at the 18:03.40 mark. This time moves her up to fourth all-time in Eagles' history.
Moving to the field events, Summer Wallace won the long jump with a mark of 5.19 meters (17' 0.25'') that places her 10th all-time in the event. Wallace also competed in the high jump taking third clearing the bar with a mark of 1.53 meters (5' 0'').
In the hammer throw, Brianna Morgan recorded a toss that measured 35.24 meters (115' 7.25''), while Abby Mikolay moved to the 10th spot in BC history with a heave of 33.79 meters (110' 10.25'').
Mikolay took first in the discus throw with a toss of 39.26 meters (128' 9.5'') placing her second all-time in school history in the event. Kylah Gray finished sixth in the event with a mark of 34.08 meters setting a new personal record in the event. Morgan grabbed ninth place with a throw of 32.13 meters (105' 4.75).
Bridgewater returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Washington & Lee Track & Field Carnival starting at 11 a.m.
