BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's track & field team kicked off the opening day of the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon.
Starting off in the field, Mike Smith took first in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.11 meters (167' 8'') earning All-ODAC honors on the first team. Jesus Flores earned points for the Eagles after finishing seventh in the event with a heave of 42.77 meters (140' 3.75'').
Flores was awarded First Team All-ODAC after finishing first in the shot put with a toss measuring 14.78 meters (48' 5.75''). This mark places Flores fourth all time in BC program history. Smith garnered conference honors placing second in the event with a throw of 14.30 meters (46' 10.75'').
Kyle Clanton grabbed third in the long jump leaping out to a mark of 6.79 meters (22' 3.25'') giving All-ODAC on the third team. Anthony Matthews recorded a jump measuring 6.65 meters (21' 9.75'') placing fifth and scoring points for Bridgewater.
Ryder Rose earned a new personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase earning a time of 10:00.22 which gave him sixth in the event. This moves Rose fifth all time in program history.
Walker Knicely qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash after finishing with the seventh best time of 50.79.
Clanton also saw time on the track competing in the 100-meter dash where he won his heat crossing the line at the 10.89 mark securing a spot in tomorrow's finals.
The Eagles currently sit third in the team standings finishing the day with 43 points. Washington and Lee holds the top spot after earning 64 points in day one while Lynchburg is second with 52 points.
Bridgewater returns to action tomorrow at Bridgewater Stadium with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 2 p.m.
