Birchett, Miller Rewrite Meet Records on Day Two of the EMU Heritage Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team completed the second day of competition at the EMU Heritage Invitational Friday afternoon.  

Ian Browne opened the second day of competition with an eighth-place finish in the men's long jump. Browne's best mark of 6.04 meters came on his first attempt. Browne also ran on the track later in the men's 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Browne clocked 11.21 in the 100 for a fifth-place finish. Browne placed fourth in the 200 with a 22.83-second dash. 

Ryder Rose took the track first for the Eagles with a 4:29.81 in the men's 1500-meter run, good for fourth place. Rose also claimed bronze in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.07. 

Trey Birchett claimed gold in the men's high jump after clearing the 1.96-meter threshold and breaking a meet record. Birchett attempted to clear the 2.02-meter threshold but was unable to within his allotted three attempts. 

A quartet of Eagles competed in the men's 5k at the end of the meet. Gabriel Miller bested the field with a meet record time of 15:49.43. Grayson Jacquez placed third with a time of 16:29.93. Brandon Adamson placed fifth, clocking 16:42.43. Dumas rounded out the flock with a 17:15.54 run, good for ninth.  

The men's throwing squad had an impressive showing at all events during day two. McKinley Goodbar and Luke Williams placed on the podium in the men's shot put, both recording top throws of 12.89 meters. In the men's discus throw, Williams was joined by Nick Goleno and Antonio Harris in the top five. Harris led the charge with a 43.12-meter throw to place second. Williams placed third with a 42.39-meter throw. Goleno's best throw of 41.67 meters landed him with a fifth-place finish. Noah Keller and Bryce Hoffman also joined the trio in the finals of the event. All top five finishers in the event surpassed the previous meet record. 

Bridgewater is scheduled to complete the final day of their Harrisonburg tour tomorrow at the JMU invitational on the campus of James Madison University.
