HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's golf team opened the home fall tournament at Lakeview Golf Course with a third place first round finish for a +48 (336) Monday afternoon. 

The Eagles were led by senior Emily Price as Price landed in fifth through the first 18 holes in a two-way tie with Virginia Wesleyan's Cheyenne Krupp. The senior scored a 78 to get the Bridgewater Invitational going. Ahead of the Eagles in the team scores were SVU with a +19 (307) and Virginia Wesleyan with a +29 (317) in a field of eight teams. 

Although Price saw a triple bogey at hole number five and a double bogey at No. 16, the Charleston, W.Va., native weathered those tricky holes to a steady recovery. At holes two and three, Price scored a birdie on both par 5 holes as well as another birdie at seven. Two more successful birdies came at 11 and 18 to card a competitive +6 on the course in day one action. 

Then, junior Hannah Rizzo positioned as Bridgewater's next finisher in a three-way tie for eighth place in a field of 50 golfers. Rizzo stumbled slightly with a handful of bogeys but effectively found a groove for holes seven through nine at even par. Rizzo carded an 80 to wrap up the first day. 

Freshman Addy Sweet steadied the course to a comfortable margin despite some high numbers. At hole number 17, Sweet shined; and knocked in a tough birdie on a par 3 hole. Sweet came away with an 87 and 27th place (in a five-way tie).  

The next finisher for the Eagles was freshman Iyana Smith. Smith placed 36th with a score of 91 including stringing together two holes at even par. 

To round out the first round, freshman Sarah Maggi was Bridgewater's final finisher. 

The Eagles will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 23 for the second round of the home Bridgewater Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg, Va.
