LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team opened their 2026 indoor campaign Friday afternoon at the Burg Open, hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
The Eagles put up impressive performances across the board in their season opener. Juniors McKinley Goodbar and Antonio Harris took podium spots in weight throw. Goodbar placed second after throwing 13.64 meters. Harris placed third with a 13.25-meter throw. Goodbar also placed third in shot put with a 12.39-meter performance. Both of Goodbar's performances were personal bests.
Sophomore Fiell Navarro placed seventh in weight throw and tenth in weight throw. Navarro's 11.80-meter performance in weight throw and 10.77-meter performance in shot put were personal bests.
Not far removed from the gridiron, senior Ian Browne recorded 5.98-meters in long jump, good for fourth place.
Senior Mason Lawhorne recorded a 1.73-meter jump in high jump.
In pole vault, junior Walker Knicely cleared 4.41-meters, setting a new program record. Knicely placed seventh for the event, topping three Division I pole vaulters.
Jayden Brown and Trey Birchett raced in the 60-meter hurdles. Brown finished third in the first heat of the prelims, clocking an 8.78. The freshman sprinter improved this mark in the finals, finishing sixth with an 8.67 performance. Brown's performance in the finals tied the seventh-best time in program history.
In the men's mile, freshman Grayson Jacquez finished first in his heat, clocking a 4:32.40. Gavin Diehl competed in the same heat and recorded a 4:38.84 mile. Jacquez placed ninth overall for the event. Diehl also competed in the 800-meter run, placing 11th with a time of 2:07.48.
Gabe Wylie placed in the top ten in the 400-meter dash, recording a 52.75.
BC will travel to Landover, MD to compete in the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.
