LANDOVER, Md. - The Bridgewater College women's track and field team competed at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic Saturday afternoon. The Eagles tallied 59 points, good for fourth in the team standings. BC placed ahead of several division III foes in the team standings.
Senior Summer Wallace opened the meet for the Eagles placing fourth in the long jump. Wallace recorded a 5.05-meter jump on her third attempt. Maddie Watson cleared 1.52-meters on her second attempt in high jump to earn fifth. Watson also competed in the triple jump alongside sophomore Olivia Crigger. Watson recorded a 10.69-meter jump on her third attempt, and Crigger recorded a 10.54-meter jump on her first attempt. The Eagles tandem finished third and fourth.
Three Eagles placed in the top-10 in weight throw. Sophomore Elizabeth Ramos led the pack with a fifth place result, stemming from a 12.89-meter first throw. Senior Brianna Morgan threw for 12.12 meters, good for seventh. Sophomore Emma Bobbitt led with an 11.84-meter throw to finish in eighth. Bobbit and Ramos also threw shot put. Bobbit's top throw of 9.50 meters and Ramos's top throw of 9.40 meters earned them 14th and 15th place respectively.
Freshman Olivia Morra and sophomore Paige Hiserman competed in the women's 5k, the first track event of the meet. Morra finished third, clocking 18:24.22. Hiserman finished ninth with a time of 20:46.92.
Jade Buckles qualified for the women's 60-meter dash finals after crossing the line in 7.82 seconds. Buckles recorded the second-best time in the preliminaries, only trailing Johns Hopkins's Chloe Zhang by one hundredth of a second. The reigning ODAC track athlete of the week clocked 7.95 for a sixth-place finish.
Bridgewater placed a squad in the 4k distance medley relay. The team, consisting of Hannah Knudson, Kasi Showers, Zoe Scott, and Shiloh Thompson, finished ninth.
Showers and Megan Walter competed in the women's 400. Walter crossed the line at 1:07.40 in the first heat and Showers finished at the 1:08.20 mark in the second heat to finish 15th and 16th respectively.
Freshman Annah Wood was the top finisher for BC in the women's 800-meter. Wood, the top finisher in the second heat, crossed the line at 2:31.07 to claim seventh. Shiloh Thompson, Hannah Knudson, and Zoe Scott also competed in the event, finishing 15th, 18th, and 20th, respectively.
Buckles took the crown in the women's 200-meter dash following a 25.67 sprint to the line. Wallace finished with a time of 26.42, missing the podium by one hundredth of a second. Arianna Jone finished tenth with a time of 26.91. Jai Johnson recorded 29.88.
The Eagles concluded the meet with an entry in the women's 4x400. Wallace clocked the fastest split time, handing off the baton to Buckles after 28.431 seconds. BC placed third, clocking 4:10.28 as a collective.
The Eagles host the Shane Stevens Winter Invitational in Penn Laird, Va., on Saturday, Jan. 24. Field events begin at 10 a.m.
