Second Half Offensive Efforts Push Men's Lacrosse Past Marymount

Arlington, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in the season following an 11-8 victory over Marymount Saturday afternoon.

The Basics:

Score: Bridgewater 11, Marymount 8

Records: Bridgewater (3-0), Marymount (1-2)

How it Happened:

  • The opening minutes of the game presented few scoring opportunities. After three shot attempts from the Eagles' offense in the first three minutes, Marymount ripped six over the following four minutes. After surviving the Saints' attack, Luke Wendler connected with Ryan Linn with 6:59 remaining in the opening quarter for the first goal of the contest. • Bridgewater opened the second quarter with seven shot attempts in the opening five minutes, with four being on target. Bridgewater eventually cracked the Marymount defense with 6:48 remaining in the half when Wagner scored his first goal of the contest. Marymount immediately responded with a goal of their own seconds later to regain the lead. Marymount went on a 2-0 run with 4:50 remaining in the half to increase their lead to 6-3. Riley Stewart scored unassisted with two minutes remaining in the period to cut the Saints lead to two entering halftime.

  • A minute into the second half, Alex Garbarino connected with Stewart to cut the deficit to one. Freshman Tristan Lee tied the affair with 12:29 remaining in the third quarter. Despite a Marymount goal in the middle of the quarter, Bridgewater outscored the Saints 3-1 in the final 3:24 of the third quarter to enter the final period with a 9-8 lead.

  • The Saints took 10 shots in the final period, but were unable to score. A goal from Garbarino on an extra man opportunity with 9:42 remaining in the contest boosted the BC lead to 10-8. Wendler added a goal with 5:39 remaining to give to insure the win for the Eagles.

Match Notes
